17 Teams Apply for 2023 Women's World Tour; Total Energy to Remain a Pro Team

The UCI has announced the list of teams that have applied for licenses for next season's World Team, Women's World Team, and Pro Team, revealing that three new teams have applied for the top women's team and four new teams have applied to join the Pro Team.

Continental team AG Insurance-NXTG has applied for a top-level license, as announced in July. Reflecting its relationship with the world team led by Patrick Lefebvre, the name of the application is AG Insurance-Sudar Quickstep.

Serratigit-WNT will finally step up to the top after being one of the top 15 teams for the past three years.

As previously reported in Cycling News, the Laurent Kogeas Edelweiss team has applied as Israel Premier Tech Laurent. The men's World Tour sponsor of the past three seasons will play a more important role in 2023.

Human Powered Health, which currently has a women's world team and a men's pro team, was not listed in a press release by the UCI, but the team told Cycling News this was due to a late application.

"This was due to an administrative delay with the bank responsible for our team guarantee. We changed banks this year and it took us a little longer to get to the starting line than we had hoped," a team spokesman said.

"All of Human Powered Health's financing through 2023 is in place and we are busy working through the guarantee process and looking forward to an exciting new season."

It was noted that all remaining Women's World teams this year have applied for renewal for 2023.

On the men's side, all 18 existing men's world teams and promotion candidates Alpecin Deceuninck, Arkea Samsic, and Uno X Pro Cycling submitted 2023 applications, the latter apparently not meeting the sporting criteria for promotion.

Total Energy was expected to apply for a World Team license, but instead applied for Pro Team status.

Uno X also does not appear to meet the sporting criteria and is unlikely to be promoted. They have signed Alexander Kristof for 2023 and are expected to continue as a professional team.

B&B Hotels-KTM was not among the other 10 professional teams listed and, like Human Powered Health, was likely left off the list for the same reason as the women's team.

However, the absence of Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli is more worrisome as the team faces an uncertain future as it searches for a new title sponsor.

Alpecin Deceuninck and Arkea Samsic have confirmed that they have applied for a World Team license because they meet the sporting criteria of being in the top 18 teams.

Four new teams were listed from the Continental ranks. The most exciting is New Zealand's Bolton Equities Black Spoke, which is ranked 24th in the 2022 UCI team rankings. Also on the list are Fabian Cancellara's Tudor Pro Cycling Project, Italy's Team Collatec, and Q36.5 Pro Cycling, a new team probably founded by former Qhubeka/NTT manager Doug Ryder.
