Michal Balgren is no longer on EF's World Tour roster.

Michal Valgren is no longer on EF Education-Easy Post's 2023 roster.

Valgren will move to the team's feeder team, EF Education-Nippon Development, but his chance to represent the World Tour team will return later this year.

Valgren, who broke his pelvis in a severe crash this summer, has only recently been able to return to riding.

This week, the 30-year-old's team confirmed that he will not be on the roster for 2023. Instead, he will drop two levels to the continental level. According to the team, this is to "give him time to fully recover and not rush his recovery."

The team indicated that it would "start the season" with the development team, while evaluating Bargren's recovery and keeping his options open for a return. Therefore, Bargren could return at any time as long as there is an opening on the roster.

However, if the EF chooses to keep the roster at a maximum of 30 (perhaps this is why Valgren was dropped), there is still an opportunity for a World Tour team to use a player from a developmental team for a specific race (limited to Pro Series or Class 1 races).

Valgren, who has won the Amstel Gold Race and the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, crashed at high speed down the Route d'Occitanie in June, fracturing his pelvis and tearing both femoral ligaments and meniscus in his knees.

Doctors told him he may never race again, but he recently insisted that he has not given up on his career.

"I love my job and will do whatever I can to get back," Balgren said.

"I don't want to end my career because of an injury. I always want to say that if I don't want to do this anymore, I will stop.

"I love my life. Not being on a bike, not being a bike rider, is something I can't even think about at this point."

Valgren recently underwent manipulation surgery under anesthesia, which removed scar tissue from his knee and allowed him to turn pedals for the first time since his accident. He now combines long hours at the physio with 15-minute sessions on his home trainer.

"I'll be honest. I don't know when I'll be at full strength, but I'm in really good shape and working hard every day, so I think I'll be back sooner or later."
