AG Insurance-NXTG has grown into a three-tier women's cycling program, adding elite teams at the highest level to compete in the Women's WorldTeams in 2023.
The three levels next year will include AG Insurance-NXTG's Under-19 team, Under-23 team, and a new elite team. All are designed to provide development opportunities and pave the way to the highest levels of the sport.
"We look back with great admiration and warmth on the success of each team in 2022," said Heidi Derobel, CEO of AG Insurance, of the partnership with the cycling teams that began last March.
"I am not talking about the success of the sport, but rather the evolution of the team. The team and staff have grown over the past year. And with the creation of an elite team, AG Insurance-NXTG will take another step forward next year."
AG Insurance became the title sponsor of the former NXTG Racing development team in early 2022, forming the Continental-registered development team AG Insurance-NXTG.
"We offer all teams a racing program that suits them and helps them grow. In this way we aim for a sustainable project and hope to encourage other teams to work on the foundations of the sport's pyramid," AG Insurance-NXTG states on its website.
Next year, nine riders will participate in the under-19 program and 11 in the under-23 program. The training teams will compete in a variety of national and international races.
The elite team will sit above the under-23 and under-19 development teams and has applied for a women's world team license for 2023. Reflecting their relationship with the World Team led by Patrick Lefebvre, the name of the application is AG Insurance Soudal Quickstep.
They are one of three teams, along with Ceratizit-WNT and Plantur-Pura (under the name Ciclismo Mundial), to apply for the 15th and final top-level license available next year.
They are aiming to compete in the biggest races of the spring season and to match the Tour de France Femme Avec Zwift, in which Continental's development team competed this past July.
Eight of this year's development riders, including Julia Borgstrom, Brit Knaven, Anya Lu, Gaia Massetti, Lorne Mertens, Ilse Pluimers, Maud Reinbæk, and Allie Wollaston, will be promoted to the 16-member elite team.
"Julia, Brit, Anya, Gaia, Lorne, Ilse, Maud, and Allie have shown this year that they are ready to step up. They are a well-balanced team that is ready to race not only on the cobbles of Belgium, but also in the high mountains of foreign countries like the Ardennes and the Tour de France Femme. It is a well-rounded team and I look forward to seeing what they can do next year," said team CEO Natasha den Oden.
New signings include Ashley Moolman Pasio (SD Worx), Lotta Hentala, Romy Kasper (Jumbo-Visma), Maaike Boogaard (UAE Team ADQ), Nicole Steigenga (Coop-Hitec Products), Justine Guéquiere (Plantur-Pura), Mireia Benito (Massi-Tactic), and Marthe Goussens (Multum Accountants), all led by former professional and team director Jolien Dufour.
"Our three-part structure gives young talent every opportunity to fulfill their cycling dreams and develop sustainably in a professional environment, providing a true opportunity to grow from base to top, from U19 through U23 to the elite teams. Having half of our current U23 team step up to elite is probably the biggest win of the 2022 season," said AG CEO DeLobel.
"I am confident that next year we will see great things from them, Jorian Dofour and the other experienced staff who have chosen to join our project."
