With the 2022 World Tour season wrapping up last weekend and races in other regions winding down this week, teams are already holding their end-of-season get-togethers to turn their attention to 2023 and begin preparing for the new season.
Team camps are one of the few times during the year when the entire team comes together in the same place. While new players join their teammates for the first time, the general manager works on clothing, equipment sizing, and many other tasks for 2023. With all of this, there will also be post-season celebrations.
Quick Step Alpha Vinyl already has a post-season training camp, and the Belgian team gathered on Monday and Tuesday ahead of team leader Remco Evenpoel's crowning at the Crystal Bike Awards, a wedding, and a honeymoon in the Maldives.
Ineos Grenadiers, ranked third in the world this season, will also be in Nice next week, while UAE Team Emirates will join them in Dubai.
Meanwhile, Bora Hansgrohe avoided a warm-weather meeting and headed to Ötztal in the Austrian Alps.
"Cycling has always played an important role in my career and I have great respect for the achievements of professional cyclists. I have to admit they were great on skis as well," said the team's "ski instructor," former Olympic downhill champion Benjamin Rauch.
"Giro winner Jai Hindley, in only his second time on skis, did not do bad at all! Austrians Patrick Conrad and Marco Haller also skied great.
Bora Hansgrohe is not the only one to hit the slopes in the off-season; France's AG2R Citroën has also been camping in the French Alps for the past few seasons, enjoying the winter sports.
These short camps, which take place in late October and early November, are the final act of the old season before the teams go on a short vacation.
The teams gather again in December for a longer camp in the province of Alicante, Spain.
