Mark Cavendish's future career is still officially unknown, but the 34-time Tour de France stage winner released a teaser on social media over the weekend.
Cavendish made his final appearance of the season last weekend at the Memorial Rik van Steenbergen, where he admitted it was the final race for Quick-Step Alfa Vinyl.
Cavendish, who has revitalized his career over the past two years, tying Eddy Merckx's record of 34 Tour de France stage wins, said he hopes to continue racing for two more years.
However, despite the transfer market opening on August 1, there is no news on where he will be in 2023.
That will not change. However, Cavendish now suggests that everything is set and ready for next season.
"This is the off-season, the race is over," Cavendish said in an Instagram video from Ibiza.
"But I don't want to give up my bike too soon because next year will be a big year."
The most likely future home for Cavendish appears to be B&B Hotels-KTM, a French second-division team run by Jérôme Pinault. According to French press reports, a number of sponsors, including supermarket giant Carrefour and the city of Paris, have invested in the team.
The team's future plans have not yet been finalized, but Cyclingnews reports that it will hold a presentation event in Paris on October 26, the day before the 2023 Tour de France route is announced in the French capital.
Cavendish will visit Paris for the route announcement before traveling to Asia to ride the ASO-sponsored Tour criteriums in Singapore and Japan.
B&B Hotels-KTM will be confident of a wildcard invitation to the 2023 Tour de France, but a new sponsorship and a deal with Cavendish will ensure it, even though B&B Hotels-KTM had a disappointing season, has big ambitions, and Cavendish is one of the players competing on the World Tour.
At this stage, the rosters of World Tour teams, especially riders like Cavendish, are filled; the 37-year-old Cavendish hired a new agent this year to find the best possible deal in what is likely to be the last two years of his career.
