Ineos Grenadiers announces the signing of Tymen Arensman.

Ineos Grenadiers has acquired Timen Arendman from Team DSM, announcing that the up-and-coming Dutchman will join the English team on a two-year contract beginning in 2023.

The move had been rumored since early summer, but was made official on Thursday, 10 days after Arensmann won the queen stage at the Vuelta a EspaƱa.

The 22-year-old finished sixth overall in the Spanish Grand Tour and broke out as a potential future overall class contender.

"Timen is a very exciting rider and, as we saw in the Vuelta, he joins a group of young GC riders who promise to be fundamental to the sport for years to come," said Rod Ellingworth, Ineos Grenadier deputy team principal. And with his success already at the top, there is no doubt that he is a rider who will add great depth to the Ineos Grenadiers of the future."

Allenman, who came through the famed SEG Racing development setup, has consistently impressed since turning pro with Team DSM in mid-2020 and took a big step forward this year.

After finishing sixth in Tirreno-Adriatico and third in the Tour of the Alps, he made his first appearance at the Giro d'Italia, coming close to a stage win in the mountain stage and final time trial. He then finished runner-up in the Tour de Pollogne and went on to win the Vuelta with a summit finish in the Sierra Nevada.

With a strong time trial and a penchant for long climbs, plus his cyclo-cross experience and a podium in the U23 Paris-Roubaix, Allenman is an all-around rider who hopes to get closer to a Grand Tour podium in the future.

"One of the biggest reasons I joined this team was a question my parents asked me. 'When you were little, which team did you look up to and dream of riding for? ' Ineos Grenadiers is the answer."

"Along with all the knowledge, resources, and people on the team, my choice was determined. I feel I can still make steps in the time trial and climbing, disciplines that are so important to running GC, and there is no better place to improve those skills than on this team."

Allenman is the fourth Ineos athlete signed for 2023, joining Arkea Samsic's Connor Swift and British youngsters Leo Hayter and Josh Tarling. The team moved Richard Kalapas to EF Education-Easy Post, leaving a hole in the Grand Tour's leadership ranks, which Allenman will be able to fill.

Andrei Amador will follow Calapaz to EF, Paris-Roubaix winner Dylan van Baar will join rival Jumbo Visma, Eddie Dunbar will move to Bike Exchange-Jayco, and Richie Porte will retire.

Egan Bernal is the team's main Grand Tour rider, and Geraint Thomas showed he is not done on the Tour de France podium.
