Bevin and Herm Van Hoek sign with Team DSM

Team DSM has strengthened its roster for 2023 with the acquisitions of Patrick Bevin and Herm Van Hoek.

Bevin, a New Zealand time trial specialist, joins from Israel Premier Tech, while Van Hoek, a Belgian climber, joins from Lot Soudal.

Of the five athletes who have decided to leave DSM, Timen Arensmann and Søren Krag Andersen are the second and third new faces for the Dutch team.

19-year-old British rider Max Poole will also step up from the Team DSM Development team and join the World Tour team after a good showing in 2022.

"I am looking forward to joining an organization with the strong philosophy and professional environment of Team DSM," said Bevin, who joins on a three-year contract.

"I believe I can bring a lot to the team with my experience as a rider.

After gaining experience in New Zealand, Bevin turned pro in Europe with the team now known as EF Education Easy Post. He spent three years with the BMC Racing/CCC team before moving to Israel Premier Tech in 2021.

The 31-year-old focuses most of his energy on time trials, winning two national titles and finishing fourth at the 2019 World Championships, but is also a growing threat in uphill and reduced bunch sprints.

In 2019, he won a stage of the Tour Down Under in a drag finish, and this year he is having his best season yet, winning a stage of the Tour de Romandie as well as a stage and overall win in the Tour of Turkey.

"Patrick is an experienced professional rider who has spent several years in the group and has shown all-around ability. He has won time trials, sprinted to victory on the climbs, and won with strong performances on the climbs," said Rudy Kemna, head coach of Team DSM

.

"We look forward to working with him and I think he still has a lot of time to bring out his talent. I think his profile fits the hilly classics, especially in the sprints after hard races, but also in the hills in general."

Van Hocke, 25, joins to bolster the team's climbing division and overall class ambitions.

The Belgian native won the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia as an U23 and is currently in his fourth professional season with Lotto Soudal.

He had a good first week at the 2020 Giro d'Italia and was runner-up at the 2021 Tour de Ain and the 2022 Sibiu Tour He joins the team on a two-year contract.

"I was attracted by the team's coaching and how riders improve in general. It is also a team that has had a lot of success in Grand Tour GC in the past and has a lot of knowledge," Vanhocke said.

"It will be another step in my career and I am curious to see how I can improve as a rider with them and what I can learn from the team and the experienced riders."

Kemna added. Hahm has had a really good career in the U23s and has stepped up every season as a pro. He is more of a traditional pure climber, but that has allowed him to do well in GC.

"We want to give him the opportunity to further improve his climbing ability and step up as a team. Still young at 25, he has room to improve and we believe he can make that progress with a specific and well-designed training and race program for the right races."

"We are very excited to have him on our team.
