The 2022 UCI Road World Championships will open on Sunday with the men's and women's time trial.
The women's time trial is the opening event of the World Championships and will be a joint event for the elite and U23 categories. The junior women's time trial will take place later in the competition schedule.
Immediately after the women's race, the elite men's competitors take to the course in Wollongong.
Germany's Ricarda Bauernfeind was the first rider to come off the ramp at 9:47 AM local time, Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). This is eight hours earlier than Central European Time.
The competitors will start in three 90-second intervals, with 2021 champion Ellen van Dijk (Netherlands) being the last at 11:45 am.
Malta's Daniel Joseph Bonello will start the men's race at 13:42, followed by two-time champion Filippo Ganna (Italy) at 16:19:30.
Both men's and women's time trials will be held on the same course: two laps of the 17.1 km Wollongong circuit, with many corners in the first half, a short climb up Mount Ouseley, and a flat straight along the coast to the finish.
