Lisa Klein Moves to Trek Segafredo in 2023

Next season, Lisa Klein will use her powerful time trial skills to move from Canyon SRAM to Trek-Segafredo in January. Trek-Segafredo announced Friday that she will race for the team for the next three years.

Klein is a gold medalist for Germany in the Team Pursuit at the Tokyo Olympics and the Mixed Relay Team Time Trial at the 2021 World Championships. A Canyon-SRAM rider for the past five seasons, the 26-year-old won the GC title at the Healthy Aging Tour (2019) and twice at the Baloise Belgian Tour (2019, 2021).

"Joining Trek-Segafredo is the biggest opportunity of my career, an opportunity that makes me not only super happy but also highly motivated. Having raced with this team for a while, it's inspiring for me to see how the racers race together and I know I can learn a lot from them. I also want to contribute to the team's bigger goals and use our respective talents to reach a common goal," Klein said in a team statement.

Since joining Canyon-SRAM in 2018, Klein has accumulated 14 podium finishes in individual time trial competitions, including the prologue. She won the junior women's time trial title at the 2014 German Championships and the road race title in 2017 before securing the national time trial championship in 2019.

"I am especially looking forward to taking time trial to the next level with Trek-Segafredo, and above all, my biggest goal next year is the spring classics," she added. [Trek-Segafredo always comes out on top in these races, so I'm looking forward to adding my skills to the team and having a lot of success. Most importantly, I'm looking forward to the new challenges and excited to see what happens!"

Trek-Segafredo team director Ina Twittenberg was eager to add time trial strength to the team for the upcoming season and to have her help lead the team in sprints and one-day races.

"Lisa is a very complete rider with a lot of power. She is especially fast in sprints after a hard race.

"These skills make her a very dangerous rider in stage races, including time trials, but I think she will be a great addition to the Classics team. With her speed, she will be a very useful rider in our lead-out."

Earlier this month, Australian all-rounder Amanda Spratt signed a new two-year contract with Trek-Segafredo after 11 years with the BikeExchange-Jayco program.
