Primoš Roglic competes in the Vuelta a España

Primoš Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) will compete in the Vuelta a España. The Slovenian has recovered from an injury sustained in the Tour de France and is considered a contender for his fourth title.

Roglic has not raced since his injury in the Tour de France and only returned to training 10 days ago. However, his team has since believed he will be fit enough to compete in the Vuelta, which begins Friday in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

A winner of the last three Vuelta's, Roglic is the record holder, along with Roberto Heras, and will be looking to become the first rider since Miguel Indurain to win four consecutive Grand Tours and take the red jersey for a fourth time.

"I am happy that Primoš will start in the Vuelta after his serious injury in the Tour de France. In theory, he was not the best prepared, but I have a lot of respect for how he has prepared," said team director Merijn Zeeman.

Roglic hit a hay bale on stage 5 of the Tour de France and suffered a dislocated shoulder and sore back. His hopes for the yellow jersey were dealt a crucial blow, but he continued to fight on, paving the way for his teammate Jonas Vingegaard to win the Tour and playing a leading role in the defeat of his compatriot Tadej Pogachar.

After abandoning the Tour after 14 stages, Roglic spent time with a physiotherapist and osteopath and was back in form by the time he tried the Vuelta again.

His team was clearly pleased that he could return from yet another setback to find redemption in Spain, and confirmed the team would provide full service to the Slovenian.

Sepp Kuss, who has helped win the last three Vuelta victories and has been a part of the last three Tours, will once again play a supportive role in the high altitude.

Rohan Dennis, who missed the Tour de France, will start his first Grand Tour for Jumbo Visma and his first since teeing up Tao Geoghegan Hart at the 2020 Giro d'Italia. Dennis won the Commonwealth Games time trial but was taken to the hospital and missed the road race.

Sam Omen, Chris Harper, and Robert Gesink will support Roglic in the mountains. Mike Tunisen will support him as an option in the sprints, and Italian ruler Edoardo Affini will join Dennis in making Jumbo Visma one of the leading contenders for the team time trial opener.

"We have started with a good, balanced team that can optimally support Primosch in all aspects," Zeman said.

"It's a pity that Cohen Bouman won't be ready for the start due to injury. I would have liked to see him in the Vuelta in the great shape he showed in the last Giro d'Italia."
