Amy Peters Continues Brain Injury Recovery at Daan Theeuwes Centrum

According to a medical update from SD Worx, Amy Peters continues her recovery from a traumatic brain injury at Daan Theeuwes Centrum, a facility specializing in intensive neurorehabilitation in Vorden, Netherlands.

"After being discharged from the hospital in The Hague, Amy was transferred to the PZC in Dordrecht, where she has received loving care, and where she has been able to receive the best possible care and support. Together with Amy, they have worked hard to be allowed to move to the Daan Theeuwes Centrum. This goal has now been accomplished. Amy can go to Daan Theeuwes Centrum! We thank PZC and are happy that Amy was able to achieve this goal with PZC," said Amy's amypieters.nl (opens in new tab) and her recent update posted on SD Worx.

"At Daan Theeuwes Centrum, Amy will continue to work even harder and focus on her recovery. We expect Amy to show great results and improvement here as well."

In December, Peeters suffered a severe brain injury in a training crash in Calpe, Spain. She was airlifted to a hospital in Alicante, where doctors performed surgery to remove brain pressure and put her in a medically induced coma.

After being transferred to a Dutch hospital, SD Worx confirmed at the end of January that Pieters had been moved from the intensive care unit to an inpatient ward to continue her treatment and recovery.

Since mid-February, Pieters has been working on an intensive neurorehabilitation program at one of the facilities affiliated with the EENnacoma network. [She began to come out of her coma in mid-March, and medical updates at the time confirmed that although the right side of her body is partially paralyzed, she is able to recognize people, understand what is being said, and perform more tasks.

At the PZC in Dordrecht, it was announced that the donation allowed Pieters to go home for the weekend and receive additional treatment.

"During this time, in addition to the care provided by PZC, your donations have provided many adjustments and possibilities. Municipalities and other authorities can only provide assistance within the rules if someone has fully completed all treatment. This is understandable, but it is almost impossible to take care of Amy at home on the weekends."

"We are therefore greatly helped and benefit from the help and necessary aids that Amy needs to stay at home on the weekends. Think special beds, chairs and bed lifts, and wheelchairs. A wheelchair van is also available. This means that Amy can come home on the weekends, sleep at home, and be cared for. Thanks to these tools, Amy can truly be at home for the weekend. Thanks to your donations, a shower cabin has also been installed downstairs so that Amy can have a wonderful shower on the weekends. We try to mimic Amy's old life as much as possible. Amy is happy and smiling when she comes home. This is a very pleasant experience for us and for Amy."

SD Worx wore a special jersey during the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift as part of the collection designed by Pieters and as a symbol that the Dutch rider is "still part of the team". In addition, a crowdfunding campaign was launched to help Pieters receive the best possible treatment at the Dutch National Championships.

"During her rehabilitation, thanks to your donations, Amy was also able to receive additional hydrotherapy. Amy has responded very well to the therapy. This extra training has given Amy a sense of satisfaction and has visibly helped in her recovery."

"We thank you all every day. Your help and donations have made this possible. Thank you so much."
