Jumbo Visma has acquired British talent Thomas Gloag, the 20-year-old has signed on as a stagiaire for the remainder of the season, ahead of a time-limited move starting in 2023.
Groag is one of a growing number of British prospects, and has gained attention for his podium finish at last year's Ronde de l'Isard, fourth place at the U23 Giro, and impressive run at the Tour de Lavenir.
He has had a less successful 2022, plagued by illness and injury, but that hasn't stopped him from pursuing his professional career, and he could make his debut with Jumbo Visma as early as next month.
There has been no announcement from the team about the deal, but he is registered as a stagiaire (trainee) with the UCI (International Cycling Union) for the remainder of this season.
A natural climber, Grogg is currently with Trinity Racing, a development team run by Andrew McQuaid and founded several years ago by Tom Pidcock. He will compete for Trinity Racing this week in the Arctic Race in Norway.
Under UCI rules, a stadium can represent not only the original team, but also the host or national team.
After Norway, Groa will represent Great Britain in the Tour de l'Avenir, the U23's premier race. He won the U23 Giro in June and has already joined Ineos Grenadiers as a stager ahead of a professional contract starting in 2023.
Jumbo Visma will not make his debut until September or later, as the Tour de l'Avenir runs from August 18 to 28.
Jumbo-Visma has not announced any riders since the transfer market opened in August, but has brought in Dylan van Baarle from Ineos Grenadiers and is rumored to be working with Wilco Kelderman, Attila Walther and Jan Tratnik. Mike Tunissen to Intermarché Wantigobert, Chris Harper to Bike Exchange Jayco, Tom Dumoulin to retire.
