Alice Burns Graces Stage 3 of Tour of Scandinavia with a Late Attack

On stage 3 of the Tour of Scandinavia, Alice Burns (Canyon-SRAM) launched a solo attack from the front of the peloton as soon as they reached the finish line. The 27-year-old British rider fought back when another move was put back and quickly opened up a gap.

"There were a lot of attacks on the finish circuit. Of course, there was no point in holding back in that situation, so I gave it my all. I think I got a good position for my teammates behind me," Burns told Cycling News.

In 2021, Kristen Faulkner (then on Team TIBCO-SVB) did the same thing, holding off the sprinters on the uphill finish straight for the stage win, holding an advantage of just over 20 seconds for a lap and a half, but Trek-Segafredo's Lucinda Brand and Lauretta Hansson's attack pushed the peloton's speed even further, and Burns was reeled in shortly after the start of the final 6.7 km lap.

"If the pack had just hesitated a little bit, the gap could have been a lot wider. When I got caught up, I had enough time to recover and help the team by positioning myself for the finish," she said.

With Barnes caught, the team coalesced around Shari Vos-Yui, who sprinted to third place on the stage and moved into second overall, 22 seconds behind stage winner Marianne Vos (Team Jumbo-Visma).
