Mavi Garcia is leaving UAE ADQ to join Liv Racing Stora in 2023.
The Spanish champion, who finished third in the Giro d'Italia Donnay and tenth in the Tour de France Femme this season, will join the Dutch WorldTour team on a two-year deal.
A duathlete, Garcia was a relative latecomer to the pro cycling team, joining in 2015, but has steadily gained strength and has been a top performer in major races since joining UAE team ADQ (then Ale BTC Ljubljana) from Movistar in 2020.
With good results in mountain classics and stage races and eight national titles under his belt, the 38-year-old believes he is still capable and aims to score more wins in his new home next year.
"When I spoke with Giorgia Bronzini and team manager Eric van den Boom, I immediately felt very good and comfortable. That conversation gave me confidence. We can create something beautiful together and I am confident that there is room for growth," Garcia said.
"In the meantime, I have worked at the highest level for many years. At this stage, we need serenity, understanding, and professionalism. Liv Racing Shutra gives me a lot in all these aspects. Every decision I have made in my career has been well thought out and has always brought positive change. This move is no different
"Liv Racing Štra is a stable team with a rich history in cycling. Looking at the riders, I see a lot of potential in all areas. I think the most important thing for us next year is to work as a team. We have to be a close unit and fight in the races that matter. In addition to that, I want to experience joy. That's where success starts."
The deal is a big one for Rib Racing Stora, the Dutch team that grew out of the old Rabobank structure. The former Marianne Vos team has only won three races this season, but the addition of Garcia opens up prospects for the next two years.
"We wanted to add a strong rider who could be successful not only in tough one-day races, but also in stage races. Mavi Garcia fits that profile perfectly," van den Boom said.
"She also brings the necessary experience that our talented youngsters can really take advantage of. We can't wait to begin this cooperation and look forward to where it will take us."
