Cannondale today announced the SuperSix EVO Neo road e-bike. As its name suggests, it inherits the features of the new SuperSix EVO, including lightweight and nimble handling, while adding 250 watts of electric assist for added entertainment.
First spotted at the Criterium du Dauphiné, the non-electric Super Six EVO, Cannondale's flagship carbon road race bike, was fully redesigned this summer, ditching the traditional round tube frame geometry, It now features dropped seatstays and a truncated aerofoil tube geometry. It also integrates SAVE System bars and handlebars, a Knot stem, and an aerodynamic Knot seatpost, making it the most aerodynamic and lightweight bike on the market. To see how it translates to our pure sensibilities, check out our SuperSix First Ride Review.
The SuperSix EVO Neo e-bike takes advantage of these novel design innovations by mounting a 250w Mahle ebikemotion X35 rear hub and a 250wh battery inside a larger downtube. A button built into the top tube allows the rider to switch between three modes, providing assistance up to 20 mph (USA) and 25 km/h (EU).
Cannondale design engineer Nathan Barry said prior to the launch of the new e-bike, "We're excited about the new e-bike. This applies to e-road bikes as well. Reducing aerodynamic drag makes it easier for riders to go faster, especially when they cross the assist threshold"
.
The new road e-bike SuperSix EVO Neo comes in three models, simply denoted by numbers from One to Three, with One being the highest spec option at 11.3 kg. With the increase in weight and speed comes the need for more stopping power, and following industry trends, all three models of the new SuperSix EVO Neo are equipped with disc brakes. The lineup will start at £3599.99 with Shimano 105 groupset, £4999.99 with Shimano Ultegra, and £7999.99 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2.
The Super Six EVO Neo comes in only three sizes, small, medium, and large, which differs from American Company's usual eight-size chart.
The e-bike trend has been on the rise for several years, and the concept has spawned hybrid bikes and e-MTBs. Cannondale has already been producing the very impressive Synapse Neo for several years, which is featured in the Best Road e-bike Guide. This year, however, the company has introduced an electric performance road bike aimed at riders of all abilities (including older and less fit riders), as well as riders who are recovering from injury but still want to enjoy their local chain gang or Sunday club run.
Like many other Cannondale 2020 bikes, the SuperSix EVO Neo includes wheel sensors and can be paired with Cannondale's own app by adding the SuperSix EVO Neo to the app's "garage." ride data (time, calories, speed, distance) can be recorded.
More interestingly, the app can provide recommended service intervals based on ride time and kilometers traveled, as well as store spare parts needed to replace repairable parts in the app, along with their respective part numbers. This nullifies the compatibility headache of buying online, it makes life much easier for your local bike store mechanic, and saves labor costs in the long run.
Finally, the app can also calculate your carbon footprint and fuel saved based on time in the saddle.
