BH Announces Core Gravel E-Bike

BH has devised a solution to the many difficulties faced by many e-bike manufacturers, especially those looking to add power to the gravel realm. Spanish cycling brand BH has invested heavily in its e-bike product portfolio, the latest being a series of road and gravel bikes.

With the new Core models, BH has cleverly integrated compact batteries and electric assist motors to provide generous assistance without creating clunky frames.

Powering the Core series is a 540 Wh lithium-ion battery pack that provides pedal assist for up to 115 km with the integrated electric motor. Maximum power output is 250W.

BH's industrial designers and engineers were particularly clever in packaging this assistance system into the new Core bikes.

Integrating a battery pack and electric motor into a mountain bike is a much easier design, thanks to the oversized tubing and generally wider Q-factor. For gravel bike riders, the size of the bottom bracket and inflated Q-factor required to accommodate the E-Bike hardware can be problematic.

To avoid this wide stance hassle, BH's design team packaged Core's e-bike bits to give this new battery-assisted gravel bike a Q-factor of 163mm. This is much closer to the crankset spacing of a conventional road/gravel bike than a rival off-road capable e-bike.

In addition to more natural pedal spacing, BH did not use a single frame geometry for all Core bikes. The geometry of the gravel version is adequate, with a slightly looser head angle and higher stack height than the Core variant on the road bike.

Aside from the tight electrification and packaging, BH also ensures a clean look for the Core gravel bike: with FSA's ACR bar and stem combination, this gravel e-bike has full internal cable routing and LED It features a smart top cap with battery indicator.

BH also introduced its own Core app that uses Bluetooth connectivity to assist riders who want to specifically adjust the intensity and functionality of assist modes.

The charging convenience of these new BH Core gravel bikes is rated at 90 minutes to replenish 80% of the battery pack's energy.
