Paris-Roubaix, Flèche Wallonne for men and women, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège have officially been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, organizer ASO said it will seek new dates for the races, which were scheduled to take place on April 12, 22, and 26, respectively. The sportives associated with Paris-Roubaix and Liège-Bastogne-Liège were also postponed.

Milan - San Remo is already off the calendar for this Saturday due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and three of the four spring monuments have been postponed.

"As part of the fight against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID19), the Amaury Sports Organization, with the agreement of the International Cycling Union (UCI), will organize the Paris-Roubaix (April 12), Flèche Wallonne and Flèche Wallonne Women (April 22), Liège -Bastogne-Liège and Liège-Bastogne-Liège women (April 26) races will not be held on their scheduled dates," the ASO said in a statement.

Last week, despite the French government's restrictions on sporting events and public gatherings, and the withdrawal of seven WorldTour teams due to concerns over the spread of Covid-19, ASO held the Paris-Nice race, a seven-day journey from the Paris hinterland to the Alps.

The race to the sun continued even after the French government banned public gatherings of more than 100 people, after two more teams withdrew en masse, and after the French Cycling Federation announced the immediate cancellation of races under its jurisdiction. The final Paris-Nice stage was eventually cancelled and the race ended a day early on Saturday in La Colmiane.

After the race, Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme admitted that the Paris-Roubaix and Ardennes Classics could not take place, and ASO issued an official confirmation on Tuesday afternoon.

"Working closely with the UCI and with the cooperation of all parties involved, the organizers have already begun to coordinate new dates for these monuments to which teams, riders and spectators have a deep attachment. [The Giro d'Italia in May has already been postponed. It remains entirely unclear when or if professional cycling races will resume this season.

It is also unclear whether the UCI will be able to arrange new dates for postponed races later this year; the ASO, like many other organizers, is postponing events rather than canceling them at this time of year, while other races like the Tour de Romandie and Tour de Bretagne other races have been cancelled altogether.

Het Nieuwsblad reported that the UCI will meet with race organizers next Tuesday to discuss the possibility of rescheduling events for the rest of the year, but UCI President David Lapartiento, in a statement calling for unity in the face of the coronavirus outbreak did not mention the meeting.

"I am confident that our sport, in all its diversity, will soon return to our lives. It will survive this ordeal, as it has done in past crisis situations etched in the history of the world," Lapartiento wrote. "Everywhere in the world, on the roads, in the mountains, in the velodromes, in the city parks, cyclists will be able to rekindle their passion. Until then, let us unite."

Paris-Roubaix was first held in 1896 and has only been interrupted in the past by world wars; it was not held in 1915-1918 and 1940-1942; if an alternate date is set for 2020, it will be the first time the northern hellhole is not held in March or April.

Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the oldest monument, began in 1892. It was also interrupted by World War I and World War II, but was held in 1943.
