The Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride scheduled for May 3 in Southern California has been rescheduled to a new date in November due to concerns about the Covid 19 coronavirus, gravel race organizers announced today. [It has only been a few days since we last sent an email regarding the coronavirus, but a lot has happened since then. In a statement sent to the media and participants Wednesday afternoon, organizers said, "Yes, the situation is escalating. 'Yes, the situation is escalating rapidly, and our optimism that the May 3 event would go ahead as planned has unfortunately had to be reversed. The coronavirus outbreak has forced events like ours to be postponed (or cancelled). As a result, the Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride will be rescheduled for the fall on November 8, 2020.
Riders registered for this event will automatically be rescheduled to the new date, unless they cannot make it on November 8. They may also postpone their registration to the 2021 Belgian Waffle Ride, tentatively scheduled for May 2.
Peter Stetina, then still with Trek Segafredo, a WorldTour road team, won the 2019 event ahead of Hagens Berman Axiom's Edward Anderson and former road pro Ted King.
