Unlike other virtual events held since the coronavirus outbreak, the Giro d'Italia Virtual allows riders to compete in their own time on each stage.

The first stage, which can be completed between April 18 and 21, is a 32.1 km section of stage 10 of the 2020 Giro d'Italia, with an elevation gain of 480 m.

Five men's teams: five men's teams: Astana Pro Team, Team Bahrain McLaren, Movistar Team, Team Jambovisma, and Bardiani CSF Faizane, and three women's teams: Trek-Segafredo, Movistar Team Women, and Astana Women's Team, as well as members of the Italian national team under 23 years old, will compete in seven They will take part in three "stages."

They will be joined by former professional players such as Ivan Basso, Stefano Garzelli, Alessandro Balan, Claudio Chiapucci, Andrea Tafi, Stefano Allocchio and Alessandro Bertolini.

The top male and female finishers will receive Maglia Rosa white jerseys, young riders will receive Maglia Bianca white jerseys, and professional riders will receive a Maglia Garmin for the team class and the top speed on each stage.

Giro d'Italia Virtual, in partnership with Rete del Dono, will raise vital funds for the Italian Red Cross' COVID-19 initiative.

The event is open to the public. Entry requires a Garmin Connect account and a smart trainer, and amateurs will have their own general class.
