Ahead of the news that the Tour de France has been rescheduled for the end of August, Geraint Thomas spoke to Procycling about life under lockdown and how "hungry" he is to taste success at the Tour again.

Thomas, who won the maillot jaune in 2018 but finished second to teammate Egan Bernal last year, said the experience of being runner-up after winning spurred him on to win again.In March, he said: "I don't mean against Egan or anything. It's not about competing with Egan or anything like that. It's about being hungry."

Thomas decided to return to Cardiff from his European base in Monaco. Here Thomas spent much of his time in a garage, doing three 12-hour home trainer rides to raise funds for NHS charities, simulating hospital work shifts.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire spring calendar was cancelled and Paris-Nice was the last race before the season was reduced indefinitely. With many WorldTour teams avoiding the race, a "gung-ho, demo-like race," and the eventual cancellation of the final stage in Nice, Daniel Friebe witnessed a unique "race to the sun" in France.

The Giro d'Italia was one of the first major races to be postponed this May, and the UCI and organizer RCS are now considering rescheduling the race for the fall. Barry Ryan examines the impact of the loss of the Giro on cycling and the place of the Giro in his native Italy. 11]

Early in the season, the UAE Tour is one of the only places during the season where the world's best sprinters come together to race. Sophie Smith covered the modern sprinting world in the Middle East for Procycling, where five of the six top sprinters (Caleb Yuan, Dylan Groenewegen, Pascal Ackermann, Sam Bennett, and Fernando Gaviria) faced off.

So far, one rider who seemed to be having a good 2020 season was Sepp Kuss. Jeremy Whittle spoke with the young American climber, who was to be a key part of Jumbo Visma's Tour plan, about how he is still learning.

Lucy van der Haar got 2020 off to the best possible start with her first victory in five years, winning a stage and the overall at the inaugural Women's Dubai Tour. The two-time junior world champion told Sophie Harkham that the pressure of meeting expectations and adapting to senior racing takes time. She explained, "In the last couple of years I've found my place again."

Fumiyuki Beppu, an athlete at the other end of his career, spoke to Ed Pickering about his journey through cycling and how he still feels young at 37. He said: "Being a professional cyclist is a blessing, but it is also meaningful to meet so many smiling people from all over the world."

He also said: "I am very happy to be a professional cyclist.
