Mathieu Van Der Pol (Alpecin Phoenix) and Anna Van Der Breggen (open in new tab) (Boels Dolmans) start Monday's opening race of the five-day Virtual Tour for All (open in new tab) in Zwift List (opens in new tab), while Rigoberto Urán (EF Pro Cycling), Luke Durbridge (Mitchelton Scott) and Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) will compete in the eSports race.
Men and women will compete in separate races, with women competing before men. Both races will be broadcast live from 15:00-17:00 (CET). Cycling News will have full race reports and interviews.
Alpecin Phoenix, Bahrain McLaren, CCC Team, Groupama-FDJ, Israel Startup Nation, NTT Pro Cycling, Rally Cycling, Team Cofidis, Mitchelton Scott, and EF Pro Cycling are running the men's race this week, while the women's race will be run by Boels Dolmans, Canyon SRAM, CCC Liv, Drops, FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope, Team Twenty20, Team Tibco Silicon Valley Bank, Valcar Travel & Service, and Rally Cycling will run the race.
The race will start on Monday with a 52.9 km race on the flat Innsbruck circuit. The second stage will be a 46.2 km race on the "cobbled climb" course in Richmond. This will be followed by a 72.6 km race on the "Medio Fondo" loop in Watopia, and the final stage will also be a 42.8 km race on the "Sand and Sequoia" course in Watopia. The race will conclude on Friday with a 46.5 km "Quatch Quest" finishing at the summit of the Alpes du Zwift.
Van der Breggen will be joined by Amy Peters, Christine Majerus, Gyp Van der Voss, and Eva Bourgman. Also of note are Alice Burns (Canyon Slam) and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope).
The pro race series will also launch a month-long initiative to raise COVID-19 crisis funds for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) through Zwift rides. 250,000 Zwift users will complete one stage of the Tour for All Zwift will donate $125,000 to the fund.
Each of the 10 teams can field up to five riders in each race. Alpecin Phoenix selected Alex Richardson, Antoine Benoist, and Roy Jans along with Van der Poel. Also on the men's start list are Matej Mohoric (Bahrain McLaren), Mitch Docker (EF Pro Cycling), Mads Wurz Schmidt (Israel Startup Nation), and Rally Cycling with John Murphy, Ty Magner, and Pierre = Andre Cote were selected.
Pro racing on Zwift adds a new level of competition not found in the recent Digital Swiss 5 series, where there is no drafting advantage and each stage was a power race favoring the time triallists.
The Tour for All requires more strategy, as the overall winning team is determined by the standings in each race and the points awarded in the intermediate sprints. The "queen stage," which finishes at the top of the Alpes du Zwift, is awarded double points.
Power-up bonuses on the Zwift platform allow riders to use the bonuses to gain temporary aerodynamic, weight, and drafting boosts, become undraftable, or become invisible for sneak attacks, further enhance the level of strategy.
