Organizers of the Leadville Race Series, which includes the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race, have canceled all events after Lake County officials voted to cancel all special events this summer due to a coronavirus outbreak.

This news is closely related to the announcement by the organizers of the SBT GRVL event in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, that the event has been canceled.

In their letter, the organizers noted that local medical resources are limited and cannot assume the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak, that the state of Colorado has set limits on the size of the event, which typically attracts thousands of participants from all 40 countries and all 50 states, and that the event He noted that this would have a significant impact on the event, which usually attracts thousands of attendees from 40 countries and all 50 states.

Over the past few months, as we have watched the COVID-19 pandemic ripple around the world, we have spent time working closely with city and county agencies to make the best, safest, and most educational decisions possible for the health of our community and yours," organizers wrote.

"We are committed to providing the best possible service to our community.

"After countless hours of dialogue and exploring many options, Lake County officials voted yesterday, May 12, in favor of the decision to cancel all special events through summer 2020. While disappointing, we fully agree with and support their decision. This cancellation is in addition to the Silver Rush Event Weekend, the Stages Cycling Leadville Stage Race, the Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB, the Leadville 10k, and the Leadville Trail 100 Run sponsored by La Sportiva, June's Leadville Trail Marathon and LT100 Training Camp will also be included. [We are fortunate to be able to offer this experience because of how hard our participants have trained for this summer event and the unwavering support of the Leadville community each year. It is not unfathomable to any of us that this would be a huge financial loss to local businesses.

Participants who have already signed up can either postpone their entry until next year, donate their entry fee to the Life Time Foundation, the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation, or their local NICA chapter, or receive a refund.

"The fact is we are going out on the other side of this. We will miss you and your finisher hugs this summer. In the meantime, we can promise you that 2021 will be our best year yet."
