Mas, last year's race with Alaphilippe helped the Tour de France.

Enric Mas (opens in new tab) is co-leader of Spain's largest team, Movistar (opens in new tab), in the Tour de France (opens in new tab).

Mas was part of the Detuninck-Quick Step team that fought to retain Julian Alaphilippe's yellow jersey at last year's Tour; the 25-year-old Mas heads into this year's Tour with his own GC ambitions as co-leader of Movistar, but in 2019 He emphasized what he gained from being by Alpahilippe's side.

"It was unique and a real learning experience," Mas told reporters at a video press conference on Wednesday.

"Having the yellow jersey with Julien for so long gave me plenty of time to absorb every detail of what it meant. Not just the racing, but also the non-bike stuff, like nutrition and dealing with the media.

Mas, who won the overall at the 2018 Vuelta a España, has improved with Movistar and will compete in the Tour and Vuelta a España with co-leader Alejandro Valverde, competing in two Grand Tours in the same season for the first time Marc Soler, who has been with the team since 2015, will focus on the Giro d'Italia.

"Enric will work with Alejandro to build on his Grand Tour experience and adapt to the team," said coach Eusebio Unzué.

"Marc deserves this opportunity and will be the sole leader in the Giro.

Mas himself will follow the same approach as Valverde when it comes to the Tour. First the Vuelta a Burgos in late July, when the Movistar men's team resumes its season, followed by the Criterium du Dauphiné and the Tour de France.

"I think we're all ready," Mas told reporters.

"Racing next to Alejandro is a big plus. No other team has that advantage.

Speaking about his condition and how he has survived the ongoing coronavirus blockade in Spain, Mas, like Valverde, said that the first few weeks he was forced to stay at home were a tough experience.

"On the positive side, when I finally started training again, I was like a kid with a new toy. My form is better now and my weight is on track.

"It's going to be an intense race for three or four months. But as long as I take care of myself, I'll be fine."

Mas was also asked about rumors that Chris Froome might sign with Movistar mid-season.

"I've always been very proud to have Froome on my team," Mass said. 'But no one believed it would happen.'
