Van Art inspired by Logrich's strength and confidence

In the opening two weeks of August, Wout Van Aert showed his skills in a variety of road races.

He started the month with a gravel road win at Stradé Bianche, followed a week later with a victory at Milan-San Remo and an uphill sprint win in the opening stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné. In the next two stages, he played a full alpine role as domestique for Jumbo-Visma teammate Primoz Roglic, proving his multi-talents and loyalty to the team.

On Friday's third stage of the Dauphiné, the final climb to Saint Martin de Belleville, Van Aert went all out at the front of the pack, bringing the struggling peloton alongside as riders including Chris Froome were shaken off. With 10km to go, the Belgian stopped at the side of the road to finish the day's work. Van Aert, the best athlete in the world today, was the consummate domestique.

Asked at the finish how he would rate his accomplishments over the past few days, van Aert paused for a moment and admitted that he had little time to take it all in.

"I don't know. I don't actually have any idea. San Remo still feels like yesterday, but tomorrow [Saturday] it will be a week ago already. I don't have much time to think about it," Van Art said.

When asked what impressed him most about Roglic leading the Jumbo Visma stage race, he answered with more conviction.

"I think it's his confidence. In fact, he's new to the sport, but he acts like he's been there for a while. He's outspoken, he says exactly what he wants, and if we need to help him, it's really easy for us," Van Art explained.

"I think his biggest advantage [on the road] compared to other GC riders is that he always has a strong last kick. The bonus seconds he took away from the stage here gives him a huge advantage over the other riders."

Logic has emerged as the leader of the Tour de France Jumbo Visma if he can maintain his solid form. Bernal is also likely to be Team Ineos' Tour de France leader, as Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas are not yet at their best. Van Aert, however, is not interested in the plans and problems of Team Ineos, preferring to concentrate on the strengths of Jumbo Visma.

"We are focused on the plan. We have three leaders, but it is clear to everyone that Primosh is a little stronger at the moment."

"On the other hand, the other two are also very experienced and super strong, so having them on the team is definitely a big advantage."

Roglic, Dumoulin, and Kruijswijk must feel the same way as Wout van Aert.
