Tom Pidcock Delays Start of Cyclocross Season

According to Het Nieuwsblad, 2020 Cyclocross World Championship runner-up Tom Pidcock will skip this Sunday's Superprestige in Merksplas, Belgium and head to the Tabor World Cup in the Czech Republic on November 29 to pick up at the Tabor World Cup in the Czech Republic on November 29, delaying the start of his reduced cyclocross season.

The British rider, who won a silver medal behind Dutchman Mathieu van der Pol at his first attempt at the elite world championships, has decided to train further for the race as he returns from a late-season break from the road season.

Pidcock won the U23 Giro d'Italia in September, winning three of the eight stages. He also won two world titles at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in early October, in the U23 cross-country race and the E-MTB category.

The 21-year-old has signed with Ineos Grenadiers and will head to Germany this week to test for the new WorldTour road team.

Pidcock will compete in 12 cross events, including all five UCI Cyclocross World Cup races in Tabor, Namen, Dendermonde, Hulst, and Ouvélaise before the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Ostend, Belgium in January.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the World Cup has been reduced from 14 to 5 events. The events in Waterloo, Dublin, Coxeide, Bensaçon, Antwerp, Sonnenhofen, Diegem, Villars, and Hogelheide were cancelled.

Pidcock won the U23 UCI Cyclocross World Cup in 2019 and also won the U23 World and European Championships in this discipline, but chose to switch to elite for the 2019-2020 season.
