Ruben Guerrero, hit by a car, needs shoulder surgery.

Ruben Guerreiro (EF-Pro Cycling) was hit by a car this week while training on a local road in Portugal with fellow pro Rafael Reis (Efapel), requiring surgery. Surgery for the left clavicle fracture was scheduled for Saturday.

According to abola.pt, the 26-year-old was out riding with friends.

"I was training in Bendas Novas with some friends, including Rafael Reis, when a car coming from in front of us made a left turn, disregarding the traffic laws, and the collision was unavoidable. I don't know if the driver was unaware of our presence or if he thought he could pass us without any problem. The truth is that there was an accident and the woman was guilty," Guerreiro told abola.pt.

"She was taken to a hospital in Evora where her fractures were confirmed." "If there are no changes during the festive season, he will undergo surgery on Saturday."

The injury will likely keep Ryder off the bike for approximately two weeks while he recovers from surgery. Ryder also confirmed that he will make his season debut at the UAE Tour in February.

"If all goes well, I should be able to start training on my home trainer in two weeks and start cycling in mid-January. Since the team will not be competing in the Volta ao Algarve, I am preparing for the UAE Tour, which will be my season opener."

Guerreiro spent just one season with Catusa Alpecin in 2019 before signing with the American team in early 2020. He ended the year with a stage win and a mountains title at the Giro d'Italia, and while his 2021 race schedule has yet to be finalized, he hopes to take on two Grand Tours.

"I would like to race two Grand Tours next year, but it all depends on Rigoberto UrĂ¡n's schedule. But it all depends on Rigoberto Uran's schedule.
