Enve has responded to the trend of gravel riders becoming more daring in their terrain choices by creating demand for a wider range of options in the best gravel wheel category.
The Utah-based cycling composites brand has added two new wheels to the Foundation Collection, a more affordable part of Enve's product portfolio.
The two new models join the Enve G-Series lineup and bring Foundation Collection pricing to the gravel market. Both feature Enve's wide hookless bead, which prevents point-load pinch flats caused by hitting sharp rocks or roots at speed.
The AG25 and AG28 rims are shaped to accommodate 700c and 650b tires, respectively, and both are wide. Gravel riders will know that the larger inner diameter of the rim provides a significant advantage in the shape of the tire casing when inflated.
Enve's AG25 has a 25mm inner diameter and weighs 360g per rim; the AG28 is slightly heavier at 372g when additional material is taken into account and has a 28mm inner width.
Both AG25 and AG28 rims have the same rim depth of 21mm, and Enve uses Sapim CX Sprint spokes and alloy hubs with a choice of XDR or S11 drivers. Rotor mounts are center-locking.
The new AG25 and AG28 wheelsets offer rims that can fit tires up to 700x50 mm in size. The increased tire volume that these wheels allow offers a variety of benefits to gravel riders.
Those who wish to do adventurous bike touring, where they need to carry more weight on their gravel bikes, will find that larger tires are beneficial in terms of load capacity.
If you are not planning ambitious bike touring, Enve's wide-rim gravel wheels have other dynamic riding advantages. Riders who enjoy singletrack or detouring off-piste on Saturday gravel routes will find that the high-capacity tires improve ride comfort and provide more sure-footed grip, especially on descents.
Enve sells the AG25 and AG28 wheelsets for £1,850. The wheelsets weigh between 1,460g and 1,528g.
