Specialized has expanded its Turbo e-bike offering with the new Como SL commuter.
The e-bike targets riders who want less bike weight and meaningful carrying capacity while embracing the active commuting and mobility trends.
Specialized's Como SL combines the ultra-low standover geometry of a traditional commuter with the latest in mid-drive motor technology.
Using the 240W Specialized SL1.1 mid-drive motor, a system also found on e-bikes such as the Creo and Vado SL, the company claims it doubles the rider's pedaling power up to 240W. The energy source is a 320 Wh battery pack that can travel 62 miles on a single charge in Eco mode.Like many other Specialized e-bikes, the Como SL has three assist modes: Eco (30%), Sport (60%), and Turbo (100%). In addition, the Mission Control app makes it easy to plan your commute route and never run out of battery unexpectedly.
Riders who wish to use the range extender can increase the Como SL's endurance to 93 mph, and pedal assist is deactivated after 28 mph.
The Como SL is designed to give riders confidence in their ability to ride and has impressive carrying capacity. Between the front basket and rear carrier mount, the Como SL can carry 35 kg.
Specialized product planners also included safety features such as built-in lights, recognizing that active commuters share the road network with other vehicles.
Active commuters are among the most avid of cyclists, and to ensure that the Como SL is capable of riding on wet surfaces, it is equipped with roomy fenders that prevent annoying puddles and road spray. For added durability and to reduce the maintenance burden on the drivetrain, the Como SL uses a Gates belt drive that requires no lubrication, and the rear hub is supplied with 8-speed internal gears from Shimano's Alfine series.
Specialized 650b x 2.3" Nimbus tires provide both comfort and low rolling resistance, while TRP Flow hydraulic brakes ensure safe and consistent deceleration, even when the Como SL is loaded to the gills. The Como SL weighs just 17 kg, and Specialized sells the five-speed Como SL 4.0 for £3,500 and the premium eight-speed 5.0 for £4,250.
