USA CRITS Executive Director Scott Morris has been temporarily suspended for alleged misconduct, according to the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The date in question was posted on September 14, 2021, but has been underwater for most of the past month. At this time, SafeSport has not disclosed the nature of the allegations Morris is facing, merely listing "alleged misconduct" next to his name.
Cyclingnews has confirmed that Morris is a contract employee of Swagger LLC, which produces USA CRITS, and that he was fired by the company. Exact details of the incident have not been confirmed, but Cyclingnews has reached out to USA Cycling for comment.
The news prompted several North American teams to withdraw from USA CRITS-related events.
News of Morris' suspension hit social media on Friday, with L39ion of Los Angeles posting the following statement via Twitter:
"Due to recent facts and events, L39ion of Los Angeles is no longer participating in USA CRITS races or events. L39ion of Los Angeles will not be participating in USA Crites races or events.
The announcement immediately sent shockwaves through social media, as the team had dominated both the men's and women's series throughout most of the season. Aevolo (open in new tab) soon followed suit, although they were not listed as a Division 1 team in the series. In a statement also posted on Twitter, the US team wrote "After learning what @USACRITS allows among its organization and staff, our decision to omit their event from our race calendar has been solidified"
.
This is a developing story and Cycling News will post further updates when possible.
