Giant has revamped its Revolt lineup of gravel bikes to make them lighter, faster, and more adaptable. Already featured on our Best Gravel Bikes list, the Giant Revolt Advanced Pro is the brand's carbon-frame gravel racer that has been winning in the Grinduro and gravel worlds since its launch in 2019.The 2022 model is a rough road and gravel and boasts a significantly lighter frameset with updated geometry for speed and efficiency in the dirt.
The flagship model, the Revolt Advanced Pro, is claimed to be the lightest Revolt ever produced by Giant, weighing 1,350 grams (with no-cut fork) for the medium frameset, 200 grams lighter than the previous model. The Advanced model has the same frame (980g) with a slightly heavier advanced grade composite fork (410g uncut) for a total weight of 1,390g. Designed with long gravel routes in mind, the new Revolto Advanced and Advanced Pro series feature a total of six bottle cage attachment points: two on the downtube, two on the fork, and one each on the top tube and seat tube.
Giant engineers and product developers worked with athletes from the brand's factory off-road team, including former Belgian Waffle Ride winner and Unbound Gravel podium finisher Josh Berry, to create the latest Revolt Advanced Pro and Revolt Advanced Gravel bikes. Berry, along with several teammates, tested the prototypes at various US races, including Rebecca's Private Idaho. The resulting new model features the latest geometry with flip-tip technology, allowing the rider to adapt the bike to different terrains.
"Gravel racing is becoming more aggressive, and this new Revolt is helping us push the limits of our abilities," Berry said.
"It's really fun to roll around on a bike that's much lighter than the race bike I rode until last year. Now I jump on a local group ride and ride home on the trails. The handling is better and the pedaling response is better."Giant's new Revolt has a shorter wheelbase and smaller fork trail than its predecessor. However, a flip-tip on the rear dropout allows the wheelbase to be adjusted by 10 mm. The shortest setting gives a quicker, more agile feel, ideal for races or quick weekend whips on the local dirt trails. The longer setting, on the other hand, increases rear tire clearance from 42mm to 53mm, providing a more stable and sure-footed ride.
On the medium frame, the reach extends 6mm to 387mm and the head angle extends 1 degree to a slightly steeper 71.5 degrees. Bottom bracket drop dropped from 70 mm to 80 mm. With these changes, the new Giant Revolt Advanced and Advanced Pro have a more solid and aggressive feel compared to the older models, making them even more race ready than before.
The new Revolts feature a lower seatstay junction with smaller diameter tubes designed to improve rear end compliance without sacrificing stiffness when cornering, sprinting, or climbing. This is in addition to Giant's proprietary compliance enhancement kit, including D-Fuse seatpost and handlebar technology.
The top-of-the-line Revolt Advanced Pro is equipped with a Giant D-Fuse SLR composite seatpost with -5/+15mm offset options. This is secured with a hidden clamp in the seat tube to allow for more flex overall. All models in the new series are also compatible with dropper posts, and the Advanced 1 comes pre-installed with a dropper post.
The D-Fuse seatpost is paired with the Giant Contact SLR XR D-Fuse composite handlebar. Both contact points are designed to work together to add compliance in critical areas without the unnecessary complexity and weight associated with pivots and inserts.
The Giant Revolt Advanced uses a similar compliance-adding finish kit, but comes with an aluminum Contact XR D-Fuse handlebar and seatpost.
Both series use carbon wheels, with the Advanced Pro model fitted with the new CXR 1 wheelset.
