Van Aal Defeats Van der Pol in Cyclocross Debut

Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) will start his cyclocross season on December 4 at the Superprestige in Boom, Belgium, Wielerflits.nl reported Wednesday. The Belgian's season debut comes two weeks before the arrival of world champion Mathieu van der Pol (Alpecin Phoenix).

The two superstars will take time out from their team camps to campaign for Cross. Van der Poel's Alpecin Phoenix team camp in Spain runs from December 1-10; the World Cup in Val di Sole on December 12 may be too soon for his return to the field.

Juan Art's debut will be in two consecutive races, the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Antwerp and the Val di Sole World Cup the following week.

He will travel directly from Val di Sole to Girona to join the Jumbo Visma camp from December 13-21, thus missing the Lucfen race and resuming racing at the Dendermonde World Cup on Boxing Day.

The schedule for late December and January is packed with racing, with six races in eight days, from Dendermonde to the World Cup in Hulst on January 2 and the Belgian Championships on January 9, with the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in the U.S. on January 31 It has not yet been determined if the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in the US on January 31 will be included.

"This is the final program until the Belgian Championships. What happens after that has not been decided yet," Van Aert told Wielerflits.

Van Aert's coach, Marc Lambertz, told Het Laatste Nieuws last month that he hoped Van Aert would not compete in the Cross Worlds The UCI Cyclocross World Championships will be held January 29-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"If you think of it as preparation, I would say don't go. But the interests of other sports are at stake. We need to see what is possible with the Jumbo Visma team and come to an acceptable compromise."
