Honsinger to Lead 38-Member US Team at Cyclocross World Championships

National Champion Clara Honsinger leads the largest squad USA Cycling has ever sent to the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Pan American Champion Raylyn Nuss. The elite men's team is led by Eric Brunner, who is also the elite men's Pan American champion.

National and Pan American Champion Scott Funston leads the U23 team along with National Champion Katie Kruse and Pan American Champion Madigan Munroe. National Champions Magnus White and Katherine Sarkisoff and Pan American Champion Jack Sprunger will compete as juniors.

The World Championships will be held in the United States for the second time in the event's history, from January 28-30.

"It is always a great honor to host the World Championships in the United States and we are proud to field a full team of dedicated and skilled athletes who will compete in Fayetteville in 2022," said USA Cyclocross Director Jesse Anthony.

"We will go into the competition with several podium finishes over the holiday period in Belgium and will be well prepared. The USA Cycling Development Program, supported by the Mud Fund, recently had its junior and U23 riders compete in a three-week race. Many elite riders also competed against their trade teams in advance of this memorable event. All of the riders are very eager to put on a show in front of the local crowd in Fayetteville."

Honsinger is ranked sixth in the elite women's UCI rankings and was third in October's UCI Cyclocross World Cup, held on the same course as the World Championships. This is her third career World Cup podium and she is expected to medal this season.

On the elite women's side, Kruse, who finished in the top 10 at the Besançon World Cup, is one of the favorites to win the U23, while Sarkisov, who finished second at the GP Sven Nys on New Year's Day, is one of the favorites for the junior women's title.

Other candidates include Sprunger, who finished second in the X2O Trophy races in Rauenhout and Herentals during the team's trip to Belgium.

The U.S. will likely send the largest delegation at the World Championships, while Belgium and the Netherlands will send much smaller teams due to the difficulty of getting to smaller towns as airlines cancel thousands of flights due to the pandemic.
