World Champion Lucinda Brand (Baloise Trek Lions) is the overall winner of the 2021-2022 UCI Cyclocross World Cup.
Series runner-up Denise Bessema (Pauwels-Sausen-Bingor) will be in Flamanville for the final round in Hogelheide and to rebuild her form for the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on January 29 and 30. He opted to skip the rounds.
"Denise Betsema will not be competing in the final round of the @UCIcyclocrossWC this Sunday in #Flamanville. After a tough Christmas period and a disappointing result at the Dutch Championships, Denise has decided to skip the long trip to France and return to 100% condition for Hogelheide and the World Championships," Pauwels Soutzen Bingor posted on social media on Friday.
Brand won six World Cup races in Fayetteville, Tabor, Besançon, Namur, Dendermonde, and Hulst to earn the majority of her points. She now leads the series with 402 points.
She now leads the series by 59 points over second-place Betsema and 107 points over third-place Puck Pieterse (Alpecin Phoenix). For every win in the World Cup, the winner receives 40 points, second place 30 points, and third place 25 points.
In the 2020-2021 World Cup season, Brand won four of the five tournaments held to capture the series title.
Brand leads the eight-rider Dutch National Team at the UCI Cyclocross World Championships. She won the world title in Ostend last year, finishing eighth.
The Dutch women's team in Fayetteville will also include Betsema, Annemarie Worst, Marianne Foss, Yara Kastelain, Inge van der Heyden, Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and Manon Backer.
The Netherlands will send only two of its seven elite men, national and European champions Lars van der Haar and Kone van Kessel. Defending men's elite world champion Mathieu van der Pol will be absent due to injury.
