Anna Kaye misses World Championships due to concussion

The British team will compete in this weekend's UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, without Anna Kay, the 22-year-old was scheduled to be the only British representative in the elite women's race.

Kay posted on her Instagram that she suffered a head injury during warm-ups for the World Cup in Hoogerheide on Sunday and will not be traveling.

"And as such my American adventure is gone," Kay wrote. She added: "Yesterday at the World Cup in Hogelheide, I fell in a hurdle before the race and injured my head. I tried to race, but I wasn't feeling well, so I had to abandon the race."

Kaye abandoned after two laps of the race at the Hoogerheide World Cup and was subsequently assessed by the British team under the concussion protocol and was deemed unsafe to travel.

"I am very disappointed but it was the right decision. I'll be cheering on my UK teammates this weekend and resting up for the last few weeks of the season," she concluded.

Kay won a bronze medal in the under-23 women's category at the 2020 World Championships in Dubendorf and is competing in her first season as an elite rider for Star Casino this year. She has two wins this season, at the C2 Etias Cross in November and the National Trophy Series in Broughton this month.
