A crash between Daniel Martinez and Filippo Ganna gave Ineos Grenadiers a carefully controlled day.
Ineos arrived in Naivol after completing the second stage of this year's Tour de France.
"It was rough and stressful, but it could have been worse," Geraint Thomas said after the finish.
"I knew it wouldn't be too big because of the wind direction, but it was still a very nervous peloton with crashes and stuff."
The GC trio of Thomas, Adam Yates, and Martinez were not affected by the splits and crashes because Ineos kept his racers in front of the peloton. The riders who supported me, Yatesy, and Dani were really good," Ineos said. We were in a good position."
However, Daniel Martinez and Filippo Ganna crashed and the team suffered a mishap 2.5 km from the finish line.
"It was unfortunate that Ganna and Dani crashed," said Martinez. 'Luckily I wasn't right behind them. I saw a big black blue thing on the deck and I thought it was Ganna. But I hope those two are okay. ......"
Ine.
Ineos confirmed that both riders were able to get back on their bikes and cross the line, but were to undergo further medical checks after the finish.
"Filippo and Dani crashed in the final, but they seem to be okay. I can't say for sure yet, but I think they will be fine."
Cummings blamed the conditions for the lack of attacks and dense peloton in today's stage.
"It's a headwind, so if you're behind you're good, but if you're behind you could be behind a crash, so that's not going to happen.
As a result, the chances of a successful attack in the last 40 km were slim to none, but the teams remained aggressive in front of the peloton, with Ineos and others fighting for position. Cummings said, "You have to get involved in the chaos, so you spend a lot of energy trying to stay out of trouble."
The Great Belt Bridge was the tactical focus of the stage and an area where many teams feared crashing. Cummings said, "It's the Tour de France, so it's nerve-wracking, and everyone knows the point where you come off the bridge and it narrows and it becomes a drag race."
On stage 1, yellow jersey Yves Lampère crashed while crossing, and EF Education-Easy Post team leader Rigoberto Urán had to fight his way back to the pack after briefly crashing before the bridge. Uran crashed just before the bridge. Uran fell before the bridge.
Ineos led the riders safely to Nyborg, but a crash in the last 3 km ruined a perfect stage for the team.
"Someone basically got caught in the barriers," Cummings explained. 'It was pretty narrow and the barriers weren't constant. So someone got caught in the barrier."
Because the fall occurred in the last 3 km of the stage, it did not affect Daniel Martinez's overall ranking, and he is now 45 seconds behind race leader Wout Van Aert and 37 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogachar.
Geraint Thomas is currently 19 seconds ahead of his teammate, and Adam Yates is currently the highest placed Ineos GC competitor.
