Pogacar and all Tour de France riders tested negative for COVID-19 on rest day

The Tour de France peloton was declared COVID-free on Monday after all riders, including race leader Tadei Pogachar, tested negative on rest day.

The UCI announced Monday morning after a series of reports on the leading teams that "all tests were negative."

Pogachar lost UAE Team Emirates teammate Vegard Stake Rengen to a positive test for COVID-19 on Friday, but Sunday's result means the Slovenian will be out of the Tour de France on Tuesday, stage 10, Morzine to Megève to the Tour de France, leaving them with six teammates.

Similarly, Jumbo Visma will be led by leaders Jonas Vingegaard and Primoš Roglic, while Ineos Grenadier will be fully represented by Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates.

All riders will be sampled with a rapid antigen test, and the new Grand Tour guidelines state that if the antigen test is positive, the results will be confirmed with a PCR test.

The teams and race organizer ASO breathed a sigh of relief at the results, as all riders who completed stage 9 were allowed to proceed to the second week.

ASO will conclude the rest day round of testing with a rapid test for team staff, race officials, and key race staff in Morzine on Monday. Many teams have already sent staff home in the race bubble after testing positive.

Positives during the race include Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R Citroen), Stake Rengen, Quick Step Alfavinir staff, Cofidis climber Guillaume Martin, and the Netflix film crew that followed Ineos Grenadier included.

Stage 9 winner Bob Jungels (AG2R Citroen) was allowed to start the Tour de France despite testing positive due to low viral levels.
