Elise Chabie, who has been a top performer in her second season on the Women's World Tour, will continue racing for Canyon-SRAM Racing through 2024, it was announced on Friday. The Swiss rider joined Canyon-SRAM two seasons ago and has made a major career move to top-level racing.
Chavy has had a number of successes this year with her climbing ability, winning the mountain prize at the Itzuria Women's race, her second consecutive win on the Women's Tour, and finishing second overall in the QOM at the 10-day Giro d'Italia Donnée.
"I am still learning a lot about bike racing, but this team allows me to not only develop myself as a rider, but also to keep my aggressive racing style. For me, it is very important to race freely and without fear in the moment. I want to continue my aggressive racing and here I am given the freedom to race according to my instincts," Xavi said in a team statement.
"I am happy with CANYON/SRAM Racing. They have the perfect ingredients and a hardworking staff, and when the opportunity to extend my contract came along, I had no hesitation."
The 28-year-old also proved her strength in one-day races, leading her team to a fourth-place finish in April's Paris-Roubaix Fam 125km. That day, she overcame a crash in the cobblestone classic, twisting the handlebars and finishing one place off the podium.
"Elise's aggressive and unpredictable racing style is inspiring for her teammates and challenging for her opponents. In addition, Elise's focused work and preparation have kept her constantly pushing her limits in her still young career as a professional cyclist," said team manager Ronnie Lauke.
Chubby also had a strong spring campaign, finishing sixth in Strade Bianche and third in Dwar door Hlaanderen. He has five top-10 finishes in stage races this year. The former Swiss road race champion (2020) is the leading candidate for the yet-to-be-announced Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift team roster.
"I'm the type of person who lives in the moment and doesn't think much about the future. Right now, I love to ride my bike every day, race, and bring something to the sport. The sport gives me something to do as well, so I'm happy with that right now. I have a contract for the next two and a half years, but right now my main focus is on racing bikes and winning races," said Chubby, who will receive his medical degree in 2019 and is currently focusing on his professional athletic career.
The Tour de France Fam Avec Zwift begins July 24 on the Champs-Elysées in Paris to coincide with the final 21st stage of the Tour de France men's race. Canyon-SRAM is one of 24 teams participating in the eight-day race.
