The Jumbo-Visma team announced that Primoš Roglic will not race in stage 15 of the Tour de France and will leave the race to recover from injuries sustained on the Paris-Roubaix cobbles in stage 5.
Roglic crashed hard when a hay bale was supposedly moved onto the road by a race bike. He dislocated his shoulder, put it back together himself, and chased for 30 km, losing two minutes to his overall rivals.
His teammate Jonas Vingegaard became the protected leader of Jumbo-Visma after the crash, and Roglic became a support in the Tour de France.
When Jumbo Visma announced that he would miss stage 15, he was in 21st place overall, 33 minutes and 39 seconds behind Vingegaard.
"I am proud to have contributed to our current position and I am confident that the team will deliver on its yellow and green ambitions. Thank you all for your great support," Logrich said in a short message.
This is the second consecutive year that Roglic has failed to finish the Tour de France. Last year, he crashed early in the race and eventually abandoned in Tignes on stage 8.
Roglic won the time trial at the Tokyo Olympics and won the Vuelta a España for the third year in a row. He is expected to lead Jumbo-Visma again in the last Grand Tour of the season.
