Giro d'Italia 2022 winner Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe) will compete in the Vuelta a España this August.
"He will be competing in the Vuelta, he has been in a high altitude training camp, he is highly motivated and is riding well so far," team manager Ralf Denk told Cycling News during the second week of the Tour de France.
After a second place in the 2020 Giro d'Italia and a roller-coaster 2021 race in 2022, Hindley finally became Australia's first Giro winner after a tense battle with Richard Kalapas (Ineos Grenadiers).
However, Denk said that Hindley's exact role in the Vuelta a España "depends on the rest of the team."
"It's confirmed to be a strong team, so there will be a lot of Giro d'Italia GC riders, and [2022 Volta a Catalunya winner] Sergio Iguita will be there. But there is no doubt that we will have a good team."
The Vuelta a España was Hindley's first Grand Tour, finishing 32nd in 2018. His highest finish was ninth in the ultra-steep summit finish of the Balcon de Vizcaya, won by Mike Woods.
The 26-year-old has not raced since winning the Giro d'Italia. However, after next week, he will likely participate in Spanish-registered races this summer, including San Sebastián Classicoa (July 30), Vuelta a Burgos (August 2-6), and Vuelta a España (August 19-September 11).
