Movistar Supports Van Vleuten's Ambition for Tour de France Femme

Annemiek van Vleuten will target the Tour de France women, supported by Emma Norsgaard, Arlenis Sierra, Paula Patiño, Aude Biernik, and Shayla Gutierrez.

The men's Movistar team has been running the Tour de France for 40 years, but the Spanish team is targeting the women's race this year.

"The Movistar team, which has participated in every men's race since 1983 without missing one, will be in the Tour de France Femme Avec Zwift, which starts in Paris on Sunday the 24th and ends at the top of La Super Planche des Belles Filles on July 31. You won't want to miss the reboot.

"The "Grand Boucle", which the Telefónica-backed team hopes will be the pinnacle of its progress after five years in the collective and many successes, will be another great opportunity for most of the registered riders, who conquered the recent Giro Donne in style.

The only change in Movistar's six-man team for the Tour de France Femme from the winning Giro Donne team is the selection of Spanish sprinter Sheila Gutierrez to replace Jelena Erik.

Norsgaard and Sierra will probably have the freedom to sprint and try for stage wins in the hilly stages before helping Van Vleuten in the mountain stages. Patiño will be an integral part of Van Vleuten in the mountain stages, and Biannick will also be in a support role.

Van Vleuten will pursue the historic Giro/Tour double, but will not be attached to the new Tour de France femme.

"For me personally, there is no big difference between going for the Giro and the Tour de France, but people around me only talk about the Tour de France. [There are more important races than the Tour de France.

Van Vleuten announced that he will retire after the 2023 season, while at the same time making it clear that he will remain with Movistar for the final season of his career.

"There will always come a time to leave racing, but in my mind it's best to stop when I'm still at the top and competing for wins in the big races," Shea said.

"I want to quit while I'm still at the top and it's best to quit when I'm with this great team."
