With 40.7km remaining in the Tour de France before the explosive sprint finish on the final day of the Ceremonial to Paris, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) will be the last man down the La Capelle-Marival slope to make history as the winner of the 2022 event.
Hours before the showdown at the top, the race's last-place finisher, Caleb Yuan (Lotto-Soudal), heads into the individual time trial. Yuan will save his legs for the final stage, but some of the early starters will leave their mark on this stage.
Yves Lampert (Quick-Step Alfa Vinyl) won the opening time trial in Copenhagen by no means. World Champion Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) will run in the 41st slot and will be looking to get back to the top of the TT hierarchy.
Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-Easy Post) and Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) are out of contention for the stage win, but all eyes will be on Wout Van Art (Jumbo-Visma), who showed superhuman strength in the final week of racing. He will start ahead of the GC contenders at 4:16 PM.
Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), Tadey Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), and Vingegaard will be the last three to arrive in Rocamadour, but with the gap to the top 10 wide open, little change is expected from them.
Fifth to seventh place will be contested by Nairo Quintana (Arkea Samsic), Louis Maintus (Intermarché Wantigover), and Alexandre Vlasov (Beulah Hansgrohe), all 35 seconds apart.
