The BikeExchange-Jayco team announced that Simon Yates has extended his contract and will be the primary leader of the Australian WorldTour team through 2024.
The British stage race rider has been with the team since turning pro in 2014. His twin brother Adam moved to Ineos Grenadiers in 2021, but Simon has always extended his contact.
Yates won the Vuelta a EspaƱa in 2018, and in recent years has been on the Corsa Rosa for victory, winning six stages in the Giro d'Italia; in the 2021 Giro, he came close to winning in 2018 but cracked and finished third overall. This year, he won a stage in Turin, but was unable to finish due to a knee injury.
Yates will continue to target stage races and Grand Tours in 2023 and 2024.
"It's very important to me to keep riding for this team," Yates said when BikeExchange-Jayco announced his contract extension. [It's been a great journey from young NeoPro to 2022. I've had many successes and many failures, but the team has always believed in me, given me opportunities, and given me the support and space to grow.
"I think there is still a lot more to come and having a great partner like Giant has allowed me to step up in the time trial and win a Grand Tour time trial stage for the first time this year at the Giro.
"I am confident that I can achieve much more and I am happy to continue with a team like this home for my 10th and 11th season as a professional rider.
With Yates set to compete next year, Bike Exchange Jayco can complete its roster for 2023, which includes sprinter Dylan Groenewegen and possibly Michael Matthews. Eddie Dunbar signs with Ineos Grenadiers
"Re-signing team leader Simon Yates is very important for us. He has accomplished a lot for our team and I believe he still has a lot more to give to us and the sport we love," said team manager Brent Copeland.
." Simon is like family, and being able to continue to work with him for the next two years will not only help the team in terms of results, but also carry on what Gerry Ryan has built over the past decade with Green Edge Cycling."
