BikeExchange-Jayco has bolstered its pipeline of Australian development riders by adding Blake Quick and Rudy Porter to the men's team for two seasons and Alyssa Polites and Amber Pate to the women's team.
Pate, 27, is no stranger to the organization after racing with the team at the Santos Festival of Cycling. The Sydney-Uni Staminade rider won both the U19 time trial and road titles at the 2021 Australian Road Championships.
"We have seen some top class results from these two riders over the past year and it is clear that they are both very talented riders," team owner Jerry Ryan said in a team statement. We hope we can provide them with the proper support and environment they need to develop into top international riders."
Polites is an unusually young signing for the team, but after missing out on Sara Gigante, who signed with Movistar, they may not want to miss out on a rider who shows such a clear future.
Polites has been limited in her opportunities the past two seasons by border closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and while she will represent Australia on the track at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, she has yet to compete in a road race within the international peloton. He has not.
"It's a great introduction to the pro peloton for me, having already met and trained with the Aussie girls on the team," Polites said of her signing with Bike Exchange Jayco. 'I look forward to contributing to the success of the team and getting to know the Women's World Tour peloton the right way.'
Amber Pate, who finished second to Grace Brown (FDJ-SUEZ-Futuroscope) in the time trial at the Australian Road Championships, has not only raced with the team in Australia, but also this year with S-Bikes Doltcini and the national team for a brief stay in Europe, where she finished in the top 20 overall in the Lotto-Belgium Tour.
Men's U23 champion Quick, 22, is a member of InForm-TMX Make and not only won the national championship U23 road race, but also the criterium and road stage at the Santos Festival of Cycling. In his most recent international race, he was on the podium of the first stage of the Alpe d'Isère Tour.
"It's been a big goal of mine for a long time to become a pro at the top level and I'm really excited to be joining Team Bike Exchange Jayco, Australia's only WorldTour team. I have big dreams and there is no better place to start my career as a professional road rider."
Porter, 21, stole the spotlight at age 19 with a top 10 finish in the 2.1 class Jayco Herald Sun Tour, which included 2022 Giro d'Italia winner Jai Hindley. This season, as a member of InForm-TMX Make, he finished 4th overall at the Santos Festival of Cycling, and also made the international podium with a 3rd place finish in the second stage of the Course de la Paix Grand Prix Jeseniquy, a U23 race he entered with the Australian team He was also on the international podium. He also finished second overall in the four-day Tour. In the following Tour of the Alpes-Isere, he finished fourth overall as part of the Trinity Racing team.
"Both athletes are playing to their strengths and already have international racing experience," said general manager Brent Copeland. They are surrounded by some of the best riders in the world, and we can inspire and learn from them."
"We believe these two riders will play a major role in the future of cycling."
