Trailing these two was Romain Bardet, who showed his fighting spirit in the TT on stage 20, finishing in 25th place, 3:10 behind Van Aert. The Frenchman moved up from seventh to eighth place, making it a bad day for Meintjes, who was 5:48 behind in the time trial.

After the finish, Alexey Lutsenko (Astana Kazakstan) and Adam Yates (Ineos Grenadiers) were in the top 10, with Lutsenko in ninth and Yates in tenth, and although their positions did not change after the TT on stage 20, the gap to Yellow widened significantly The top 10 were in the top 10 after the stage 20 TT, with Yates in 10th. After stage 20, the top 10 were 25:43 ahead going into Sunday's final stage.

Vingegaard's victory story spans many stages, but his big win came on stage 11, the Granon Pass. A week later, on stage 18, he dashed Pogachar's hopes for the yellow jersey on the climb of the Autacam, winning the stage by more than a minute over the Slovenian.

Of course, this was in parallel with the fine gain battles of the day and Pogachar's daring attack. Veeneggergaard finished the Tour as a worthy winner, setting the stage for dramatic GC battles for years to come.
