Lorena Wiebes will reportedly move from Team DSM to SD Works on a two-year contract through 2025. According to a report in the Dutch news media AD.nl (opens in new tab), Wiebes will end her current contract with Team DSM, which expires at the end of 2024, early and sign a new contract with SD Worx starting in 2023.
Cyclingnews contacted representatives of both Team DSM and SD Worx about the move, but neither had responded at the time this article was published.
Vives signed a contract with Team DSM midway through the 2020 season. She was happy with the deal, as it seemed to lock this sprinter in until 2024 and would provide stability until the Paris Olympics.
However, according to AD.nl, there was a clause in the contract that gave her the opportunity to consider better offers from other teams. The news outlet speculated that Wiebes' move was due to a higher annual salary offer.
Wiebes is arguably the fastest sprinter in the Women's World Tour today, with 15 wins on the UCI international calendar in 2022. She is currently competing in the Tour de France Femme, winning the opening stage of the Champs-Elysées on Sunday to take the event's first leader's jersey.
