Eddie Dunbar moves from Ineos to Bike Exchange Jayco

Team Bike Exchange Jayco has announced the acquisition of Eddie Dunbar from Ineos Grenadiers for 2023. The multi-talented Irish rider has agreed to sign a three-year contract with the Australian team.

Bike Exchange Jayco recently confirmed the support of team owner Jerry Ryan and extended the contracts of Michael Matthews and Simon Yates.

After not being selected for the Giro d'Italia, 25-year-old Dunbar went on to win the overall at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali in March and the Tour de Hongri in May. He is a talented climber and will be part of the BikeExchange-Jayco stage race team.

Danna ran the Giro with Ineos in 2019, but that remains his only Grand Tour appearance, which was a major factor in him seeking opportunities elsewhere for 2023.

"I am very excited to spend the next three years with Team Bike Exchange Jayco. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to compete in more big races and continue to grow as a rider," Dunbar said. [I'm] very excited to join a team that is already having great success, as evidenced by my stage wins at this year's Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. I can't wait to see what's in store for me."

Bike Exchange Jayco is embroiled in a battle to avoid relegation to the World Tour in 2023, but thanks to Yates, Matthews, and Dylan Groenewegen, the team has recently begun to consistently score points and team manager Brent Copeland is optimistic about the future.

Elsewhere, Italian national champion Filippo Zana has joined the team from Bardiani-CSF-Faizane, and young Australian players Blake Quick and Rudy Porter will turn pro in 2023.

Quick won the U23 Australian road race championship in January and a stage win at the Santos Festival of Cycling and is considered a future sprint rider. Porter is a climber and stage race rider. He finished fourth overall in the Alpe-Isère Tour and second overall in the Cours de la Paix Grand Prix Jeznicky Nations Cup.

Dunbar will team up with Simon Yates in the Bike Exchange Jayco, but will also get his own leadership opportunities in the week-long stage race.

"It is really exciting for us to have a talented, young, but experienced rider on our team. Eddie had a really strong season this year," Copeland said of Dunbar's addition to the 2023 Bike Exchange Jayco.

"We have seen him step up and we believe he will fit in very well with our team and play a big role in strengthening our team in the stage races. Eddie looks like a real racer and this is something special we wanted to bring to the team. He is really into racing and we look forward to supporting his development and seeing what he can achieve with us in the next three seasons."
