Italian sprinter and track rider Letizia Paternoster will move from Trek-Segafredo to Bike Exchange Jayco in 2023 to strengthen the Australian team's sprint group.
A former U23 road race European champion and multiple world and European track champion, Letizia Paternoster is just 23 years old and is considered one of the most talented Italian riders of the new generation. She suffered a string of injuries in 2020 and 2021, but appears to be back to her best this year.
Paternoster's father is Australian, so she has a special connection to the BikeExchange-Jayco team. She won the opening stage of the 2019 Santos Women's Tour Down Under in her debut with Trek-Segafredo and has been in great form on the track, recently winning the world titles in the elimination race and individual pursuit at the Cali World Cup in Colombia. He has shown.
Although he did not compete in the Giro d'Italia Donnay or Tour de France Fam, he will likely have a protected role in the European road race championships in Munich.
"I am very excited and happy to start the new season with GreenEdge Cycling. I am confident that I will achieve great results with this new experience," Paternoster said. [I am confident that I will find my place in Team Bike Exchange Jayco. I'm looking forward to meeting all of my new teammates and building strong relationships with everyone. I just need to keep a little more excitement and spirit until the new season starts."
Paternoster agreed to a two-year contract covering the 2024 Paris Olympics.
BikeExchange-Jayco owner Jerry Ryan recently confirmed that he will back the team for the next three years despite fears of demotion from the men's World Tour.
The team has agreed to new contracts with Michael Matthews, Simon Yates, and Urschka Zigato and announced the addition of Eddie Dunbar from Ineos Grenadiers. Other new signings include Italian national champion Filippo Zana, who will join the team in 2023.
BikeExchange-Jayco believes Paternoster will increase the women's team options in the Sprint Finish and Spring Classic. The current roster includes Kristen Faulkner and Ruby Roseman-Gannon, but Amanda Spratt will likely move on in the very competitive women's transfer market.
"We feel Letizia will be a great fit for the women's team, and bringing in such a fast finisher will give the team many options for a high finish on the Women's World Tour calendar," said team manager Brent Copeland.
"There is no doubt that Letizia is a great talent. It is always exciting to sign a rider like this who has so much experience and still leaves a lot of potential."
