Chris Harper is leaving Jumbo-Visma at the end of the season to join Bike Exchange-Jayco. The Australian native has signed a two-year contract that will keep him in the GreenEdge setup through the end of the 2024 campaign.
"I am very excited to be a part of Team Bike Exchange-Jayco for the next two seasons. As an Australian, I have always respected the team, the staff and the riders, and I look forward to working with the team to help them achieve their goals.
"I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in my career and finding good goals for the upcoming season." "I hope I can contribute to a lot of success within the team."
BikeExchange-Jayco has already announced the addition of Eddie Dunbar from Ineos, while Michael Matthews and Simon Yates have opted to extend their contracts with the team.
Harper moved from Team Bridge Lane to Jumbo Visma in 2020, stepping up to the World Tour for the first time, but his debut season at the top level was interrupted by a coronavirus outbreak.
In October of the same year, he competed alone in the Grand Tour, but his race ended prematurely when Jumbo-Visma pulled out of the race before stage 10 due to Stefan Kruijswijk's positive COVID-19 test.
In 2021, Harper proved his quality by finishing fourth overall in the UAE Tour. In that race, teammate Jonas Vingegaard showed his potential by winning the stage to Jebel Jaisse. This season, the 27-year-old has been part of the Jumbo-Visma team that helped Primoš Roglic win the overall at the Criterium du Dauphiné.
"It's always good for us to bring Australian talent to the team," said Bike Exchange General Manager Brent Copeland. [Chris is from Australia, so he already knows many of the riders and staff well, has heard great things about him, and has seen him play a valuable role as a domestique rider in some of the biggest stage races in the world. We can't wait to get started and I am confident that having Chris on the team will be a big plus in a hilly race."
