McNulty and Majka transferred from UAE team Emirates

UAE Team Emirates solidified its future roster on Friday with the announcement of four contract extensions, including top domesticians Rafal Maika and Brandon McNulty of Tadei Pogachar.

The two signed new two-year contracts, as did Danish ruler Mikkel Bjarg, who was instrumental in Pogachar's stage win in Peyragudo at the recent Tour de France.

The fourth contract extension is Diego Ulissi, who began his career in 2010 with his former team known as Lampre.

UAE Team Emirates re-signed eight current members of the team after it was announced earlier this week that Matteo Trentin, Vegard Stake Rengen, Ivo Oliveira, and Rui Oliveira would be with the team for another year.

Pogachar won three stages, but tasted his first overall defeat at this summer's Tour, again putting a question mark over his support network; the UAE was plagued by illness and injury, and Pogachar was left far behind in the battle with Jonas Vingegaard and Jumbo Visma.

It remains to be seen if Pogachar will acquire a star player from another team, but he was able to keep Pogachar's most impressive domestics. Since joining from Bora-Hansgrohe in 2021, Micah has established himself as the Slovenian's closest and most consistent ally in the last two Tours.

McNulty was not always at the top of the Tour, but on the stage to Peyragudes he had the best support ride of the race, dropping all but Pogachar and Vingegaard. On the same stage, Bjarg also went from a seemingly unknown rider to tearing through the GC group on the last minute climb. The Dane is a former U23 world time trial champion and can cover the flats and early mountains.

McNulty and Bjarg both turned pro with UAE Team Emirates in 2020. McNulty has been on a fast track since the start of the 2022 season and is considered a future Grand Tour contender.

Ulissi, meanwhile, has over 50 wins and is contracted for two more seasons before his 35th birthday.

UAE Team Emirates has not signed a new contract for 2023, but will say goodbye to Rui Costa, who will move to Intermarche Wanty-Gobert.
