Rohan Dennis will miss Sunday's road race at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
The Australian Commonwealth Games team and AusCycling announced Dennis' absence on Sunday morning, but did not provide details of his problem.
According to AusCycling, Australia will field four riders in the men's road race: Luke Durbridge, Luke Plapp, Miles Scottson, and Sam Fox. Caleb Yuan had already withdrawn from the race after not recovering from surgery to remove a plate from his collarbone.
"Rohan Dennis, just hours before the men's road race in Warwick, near Birmingham, said, "On medical advice, I will not be participating in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
"Dennis, who won gold in the men's individual time trial on Thursday, woke up Saturday morning in discomfort and was taken to a local hospital for examination and observation.
"As a precaution, Dennis was advised to abstain from today's road race, but is resting and under observation. The Commonwealth Games Australia team and AusCycling wish him a speedy recovery."
[10Dennis won gold in the Commonwealth Games men's individual time trial on Thursday, beating out Geraint Thomas and Fred Wright.
Dennis was not selected to represent Jumbo Visma in the Tour de France, and his last race for the pro team was the Tour de Suisse.
Four riders, who have not been named, are said to have tested positive, and Dennis reportedly had stomach problems at the start of the race.
